What is the difference between interpreting and translating? All you need is a second language, isn’t it?
Interpreting refers to verbal exchanges, such as meetings, phone calls, conferences. Translation is for written texts, such as personal documents, reports, websites or books. The skill sets are different and only a few practitioners are able to offer both to a professional standard.
The difference between a bilingual person and a T & I professional is sometimes compared to the difference between a home cook and a restaurant chef. Professional translation and interpreting to a standard you can trust requires a high level of education, considerable bi-cultural knowledge, ongoing training and professional development, constant linguistic refreshers, ethics as well as multiple processes and tools, which go beyond simple bilingual skills.

My counterpart speaks some English/I speak some French. Do we really need an interpreter?
With limited knowledge of the language on either side, you'll find that the parties concentrate more on deciphering language issues than on core matters. Expect greater fatigue and lower productivity. It is also easy to end up with misunderstandings that will take much time and even expense to rectify later.

My total focus is on ensuring that the recipient is fully engaged with the message you want to convey and forgets it was originally delivered in another language.
To achieve this, my translations are put through a four-step quality assurance system, which has been appreciated by my long-standing clients and the many referrals they have sent my way over the years. In addition, for the most critical or high profile translations, I commission the services of a separate final reader, to give a last polish to the translation.
Interpreting assignments include extensive preparation of the meeting: agenda, individual topics, in-house and technical vocabulary. I’ll tell you how you can take full advantage of this and get best value for money.
